I started keeping journals in 1988 at the age of 6. I don't think I fully appreciated the potential of keeping a notebook until my early 20s though. Many of my youthful journals seem very superficial and imitative, reflective more of whatever I was reading at the time or what I wished my life was like than what it actually was. It wasn't until about 2002 that I allowed myself to get deeply, frighteningly honest within the safety of those pages; in the 21 years since then my notebooks have become a place to go to untie my mental knots, seek wisdom, and restore my tattered sanity.
